Is it legal for a company that has your credit card to charge it for more stuff unless you opt-out?

i had purchased a domain name from globat.com, a company based in california. they sent an email recently saying i %26quot;qualified%26quot; for a great offer and it would only cost $49.95. they said it was even %26quot;better%26quot; since i didn%26#039;t even need to do anything if i wanted to %26quot;sign up%26quot;. they would simply charge my card on file. only if i didn%26#039;t want this %26quot;upgrade%26quot; would i have to contact them and let them know i did not want this. is this practice illegal or just totally scummy? if it is illegal, how can i get these bastards in some real trouble? thanks.

Report them to the attorney general if they charge it.

But I would report my card as lost and request it be cancelled and request a new one.

If they charge you without consent it%26#039;s illegal, unless somewhere in the terms of service it said something about those offers. I would call my cc company and tell them it as an unauthorized charge if they charge you anyway.
