Are there any negative consequences to signingup for a credit card and then closing the account righ

I keep seeing people on campus offering free stuff like pizza, hats T-shirts bags etc for sining up. People sign up and then close the account when the card comes in the mail, or they just fake the application. Are there any negative consequences of doing this?

Are there any negative consequences to signingup for a credit card and then closing the account right away?auto financing

If you are doing it alot if can hurt your credit. Each time a person opens a card it is a small ding on your credit score. But from knowledgeable people have told me is that it is not a huge impact on your credit. Figure maybe 3-5 pts down if you open a card. so unless you do it 10x a year it wont hurt your credit much.

As far as closing it our right away, that wont hurt because will have no credit history with the bank. BUT it will help your score go back up if you use the card a little. Just spend like 50/month on it and then pay if off. That will easily make your credit score go up.

Every time you apply (sign up) for credit of any kind, they can run your credit check. Too many credit checks within a certain time period will lower your credit score. %26quot;Too many%26quot; could be as few as 3 in three months.|||Yes - all credit checks and credit cards shows up on your credit history - to many hits and it%26#039;s a negative toward future credit!@~

Better rewards card than this, worth hassle also ?

I currently have a Everyday Elite visa rewards card which offers 4% gas , 2% on restaurants and food and 1% on everything else, is there anything better then this worth me going through the hassle and credit score effect of opening a new card. I also use a regular points debit card from national city for everything else, it aint much but would rather not have to pay such a huge bill every month on a credit card.

Any other suggestions, would love to hear them

That is quite good really. There might be cards slightly better based on your spending habits but I definitely don%26#039;t think you should switch.

American Express Blue Cash is often rated as the best cash back card. With Amex Blue you get .5% cash back on everything and 1% cash back while you are spending less than $6500 for the year and then 1.5% on everything and 5% on everyday items thereafter (groceries, gas, drugstores). It has some other benefits as well like Buyer Protection and a program than can extend the warranties of some of the items you purchase. It%26#039;s complicated to compare yours to this becasue of the change in return after spending $6,500. I reccommend just staying with your card. A better rewards card isn%26#039;t going to make anyone rich.

Reward credit cards reward you depending on the amount you spend on the credit card. Usually, you can collect rewards through 3 methods. One method involves earning cash back on the card, which is generally a certain percentage of each amount you spend. The next method involves giving points or any other type of token to the customers to accrue. They can then redeem these points for gifts like luggage, cosmetics and other goodies that the credit card company offers. Most of these reward schemes have alluring gifts and huge variety of selections. But the better option is to go for a cash back reward as it allows you to use the money any way you like|||I like american express delta miles card it give you a huge bonus when you sign up plus it will give you miles for every dollar you spend and offer alot or double mile days and this miles rack up fast which will give you a free round trip once you hit 25,000 miles you initial bonus is 17,500, check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com here you will be able to compare all credit cards that offer rewards side by side.

Is it legal for a company that has your credit card to charge it for more stuff unless you opt-out?

What first purchase(s) should I put on my brand-new credit card to earn future generous credit limit

I%26#039;m totally new to Chase. Approved for Professional card with a 10K CL. Some says banks see first-purchase as indicator of habit and might affect future limit increases. Please offer some suggestions.

What first purchase(s) should I put on my brand-new credit card to earn future generous credit limit increase?credit rating

Nonsense. The bank might examine your first month%26#039;s purchases to determine your spending habits. To make the best use of your card, limit your spending to no more than 20-25 percent of your credit limit and pay the full amount by the due date. As you develop a history of reliable payment and not excessive use of your credit, you can ask for a credit limit increase.

I have a card on which the limit was about $11,000 and in a month that included a foreign trip I charged about $8,000 instead of the usual $3-4,000 per month. Without my asking, the bank increased the credit limit to $13,000 and notified me by letter. On another card I had to make a large purchase which I wanted to charge so I called the card company and explained my planned purchase and asked them to increase the limit by about 60 percent. They did so because of my excellent payment record.

It is difficult to say. I would be conservative at first because your spending habits will be tracked. Bear in mind that not only will they keep tabs on your habits with them, they%26#039;ll also track you on other accounts you have. Bank%26#039;s have their own in-house scoring systems the public isn%26#039;t aware of. A phone call to their customer service to seek out information on guidelines will not hurt you.|||It really makes no difference what you purchase. The bank really doesn%26#039;t care. They are only concerned that you pay them on time.

The smartest thing for you to do is charge only what you can pay in full each month. They will automatically increase your limit every 6 months to a year.

Curious, are you going to be using this card for lots of business travel that you think you will need more that a $10K limit? Remember Credit cards are pretty bad for long term finance.

CAN I LEGALLY GET RID OF CREDIT CARD DEBT ???????????????construction loans

Credit cards are %26quot;non-secured%26quot; loans. Meaning the money they lend you through MasterCard or Visa is not tied to any collateral. If you stop paying on the debt the credit card company can not do anything but rate you as a bad risk in the credit reporting agency. Basically you get a bad credit rating that won%26#039;t go away for up to 7 years after you pay the debt off. If you can live with the bad credit report than just stop paying them. You can still get a car loan, but you will pay a high rate of interest because of the bad credit report. You can still buy a house, but the same applies, high interest rate for a high risk loan. One way or another (pay the debt off or pay high interest rates) you end up paying more than a person with a good credit report. Another alternative is bankruptcy which is an awesome tool when used correctly. It is a tool that many millionaires and billionaires use to their advantage while most working people scorn the legal precedence. If you have more debt than income, bankruptcy is for you. Don%26#039;t empty your savings and retirement accounts trying to keep up, just go file. Erase the debt and start over. You will have a high risk credit report for up to 10 years but within a year you can start building a good credit profile to shorten the high risk time. It%26#039;s all about the capitalism!

CAN I LEGALLY GET RID OF CREDIT CARD DEBT ??????????????? loan

bankruptcy?|||bankruptcy|||First of all, stop using your credit cards. They promote spending more than you make and make you pay horrible interest. Spend less than you make and you can clear it.

Something that every person should do is save 10% of their income for retirement. Getting it put automaticaly into a bank account is the best way so there is no temptation of spending it. With your situation I would put that 10% into the debt. The only reason you wouldnt is if you could find a way to make more interest than your credit cards are charging. (Still stay away from stocks, you don%26#039;t want to play around with money you dont have) The simplest way to say it is pay them off and don%26#039;t spend more than you make.

There%26#039;s none currently in the market. There is an Amazon Visa offered by Chase, but not an Amazon-Borders card. Amazon and Borders are two separate companies (not to mention competitors) so it is highly unlikely that they will join together in one card -- unless one company buys the other.

You can just get the Amazon credit card and oftentimes they offer reward points to usage of the card in non-Amazon.com places.

I have found a button on the source. It leads to a site that does not turn anyone down for a credit card and no credit checks. The site is great for other resources.

If a company refuses to accept a payment for a credit card, are you liable for additional payment to

I took out a 12-month-same-as-cash cred card to pay for a $2k item. Starting In December I was being hounded by an automated phone call asking to call this 800 #. When I did, I was told I had missed a payment and immediate payment was due, as well as $200 worth of interest and late fees were added. This seemed odd since I paid past payments on time. I checked with my bank, and the check had not cleared. I talked with the co and they would not back out the interest and late fees even though I offered to pay the account off (before interest and fees). I had even spoke to the manager of the agent. In addition, they wanted a $14.95 processing fee for accepting payment over the phone.

I wrote a check for the original principal in full, sent it to the co via certified mail, and they received it before the next payment due date. The very next day after it was received, I got another call from the company and I did not return. By the weekend, the check was returned, unaccepted.

If a company refuses to accept a payment for a credit card, are you liable for additional payment to them?yes loans

Your problem is that when that first payment was missed, your account was in default which made it all due and payable. If you check thru the fine print, it covers all the fees, etc. While it%26#039;s curious that the check never cleared, you still owe them the extra fees.

Did you check include some kind of %26quot;full payment%26quot; statement? It seems really strange that they wouldn%26#039;t take the payment. Be sure to keep all that documentation.

Your only option at this point is to contact the collection agency and work out a settlement. Get the agreement in writing and absolutely don%26#039;t give them access to your bank account. Try offering half the extra fees. It might be worth it to get rid of them.

What is the best solution for unsecured credit card debt?education loans

If I understand your question, you are having difficulties making the monthly payments on your credit card debt. Consolidation is not really a good answer because your credit score is probably pretty low right now and if you can get one your interest rate will be pretty high. You also have those credit cards still available and you could (and most people that go this route do) end up running up the credit cards again. Now you have twice the debt and no solution.

There are a bunch of scams out there and a lot of people that will try to rip you off under the guise of repairing your credit. Go with a reputable organization that will help you and not rip you off. I have worked with Consumer Credit Counseling Service for a couple years and they have been great. Bet better of the two is consolidation. But the big danger is that you MUST get control of your credit spending. Over the past few years, many people have been suckered into the consolidation game. They clean off their credit cards into one debt, then turn around and run up the credit cards again. Now they are in twice the debt, and their only hope is bankruptcy. Last year many thousands of people filed for this very reason.

Debt settlement in my opinion is a scam. These companies are offering you services that you can easily do yourself. The problem is trying to get the credit card companies to work with you. Most of them are jerks.

Will transferring a balance hurt my credit score??

It shouldn%26#039;t cause it is a pre-approved credit line. I would however, check out a reputable credit bureau such as TRW and inquire with them. Call directory assistance for their 800 nbr. Dont trust anybody%26#039;s opinion on here, its not worth screwing up your credit score.

Have a nice day:)|||Your credit score may go down temporarily when you open a new account (from new inquiry and the shortened length of average credit), However, in a long run, you will save a lot. You may don%26#039;t want to close out your credit account immediately. Just keep it open for having a large credit available and having a long term credit account benefit your score.|||If you are planning to open a new card, then it will hurt your credit score. It will also hurt your credit score if you close your existing account.

Every time you apply for credit, an inquiry shows up on your credit report. The inquiries stay on your report for 2 years, and each will have a small negative impact on your credit score. Having too many inquiries may even cause you to be turned down for credit, as lenders look at this when extending credit to you.

When you close an existing credit account, it will also have a negative impact on your credit score. Another thing that is factored into your credit score is the length of time your credit accounts have been opened. If you close an existing account, you will shorten the average age of your accounts, and cause your credit score to go down. If you do decide to transfer the balance from your existing card to a new card, you should keep the existing account open. You can set this card aside, but use it once every six months or so to make sure that it still shows as an active account on your credit report.|||Temporarily. Keep in mind balance -to- credit limit ratio is more highly weighted than the age of your accounts. So paying down a credit card is more important than how long you had or have the account open.

Also, people transfer balances all the time. It does hurt your FICO score a little anytime you open a new account, but since the balance on the new card will be dropping A LOT faster than on the old card, this evens things out.|||In general, yes. Closing a credit card even if it is at %26quot;consumers request%26quot; will lower your score. The best way to see is go to myfico.com and use their predictor service or go to MSN and they have a free service for credit card scoring. You can use both. However, If I were you. The prospects of closing only a one year card and yet getting a better rate of return (lower interest rate) would be worth it. However, here is another angle that you may not have thought of. Call your existing credit card company and tell them that you are looking to close the account and do a balance transfer but willing to stay with them if they can offer a more competitive rate. You%26#039;ll be surprised. They may come close to or match the competitor%26#039;s offer because it costs money to find a good client to lend to like you.

Good luck|||Assuming you have only 2 existing credit cards, transferring the balance from one to the other will cause a temporary drop in your score. In essence, it may appear as if you%26#039;ve racked up more debt on your 2nd card (in other words, it looks like you have large balances on both). However, in a few months, once the updated credit information makes it%26#039;s way to the credit bureaus, you should be fine.

I don%26#039;t recommend closing your account, especially if you only have 2 cards. Having too few accounts is actually bad for you, too!!! Keep it open and consider it as a backup.

In general, I wouldn%26#039;t recommend more than 3 credit cards, and no less than 2. Credit scores are based on a formula that looks at all varieties of credit, so you%26#039;ll want to keep a few of each type (ie. credit cards, secured loans, mortgages, etc.).

What does it mean to be "pre-approved" for a credit card?

What does it mean to be %26quot;pre-approved%26quot; for a credit card?no fax loan

I%26#039;ve been turned down on %26quot;pre-approved%26quot; credit cards before. Pre-approved means you are pre-approved to be accepted to carry a credit card but they don%26#039;t tell you that you can be denied after the fact, after they do a check on your credit history. Then after they get your response or attempt to be accepted they bomb you with offer after offer and they sell your address to mailing address harvesters then the domino effect just keeps happening. Terms and conditions of the various credit card companies are probably not consolidated anywhere, since they change frequently. And most of them have limited special offerings.

Make yourself a list of the terms you want to compare. Call each credit card company and get information for each one.

The terms offered to you will depend on your credit rating. The credit card companies cannot give you specific information on what you qualify for UNLESS you actually apply for their credit card, which gives them the right to look at your credit report.

Keep in mind that whenever you submit an application to a lending company (bank, mortgage company, credit card company, etc.) your credit score is reduced.

As far as comparing %26quot;prestige%26quot;... you%26#039;ll have to decide which card is the most %26#039;prestigious%26#039; for you.

My advice, if you have no credit card at all at the present time, is that you go to a local credit union or bank and apply for THEIR credit card (usually associated with Mastercard or Visa). Once you have one, and you make all payments on time, other credit card companies will be more inclined to make competitive offers to get you as their customer.

Pay the bill and have it removed from your profile|||If you can hang on two more years, you should be in the clear. In the meantime, kick back and stay out of any more bad credit situations. Keep present documentation on all bills you are and have been paying. This will give you some support when it come time to contact the credit agencies to remove all the submissions.|||Believe it or not, the best way to fix credit, escpecially from that long ago, is to order a credit report from all 3 agencies and DISPUTE EVERYTHING NEGATIVE. Often the lender would rather erease the negative history on the credit file than pay someone to drive to a warehouse, dig through old, dusty files and send %26quot;proof%26quot; to the Credit Reporting Agency.

It isn%26#039;t likely to fix everything, but some negative credit will certainly go away.

Beyond that, check for a local credit repair agency in your Yellow Pages--beware of on-line services.|||were the bills in collections or no longer being active? if the creditors gave up on collecting payment for those bills and they remained dormant, i.e. they stopped trying to collect on them, then you did a very bad thing. I%26#039;m sure you had good intentions on wanting to pay back old balances and start from scratch, in theory, but what you actually did was when you paid off those bills, the negative credit history from that point up until now came along with it. Credit is a stupid entity and I don;t know why they do this. You essentially, if I%26#039;m understanding you right, woke up a sleeping giant. If you paid off these old bills then you actually lowered your score by doing so since it carried all the bad credit along with it. Had you just left them alone and tried to rebuild your credit then it would%26#039;ve been okay but now you%26#039;re in a situation where your past just caught up with you. for now though, get a secured credit card. it%26#039;s pricey but it will help your score in about 6-8 month period, at that point then you should be able to get something a little better than what you have now.|||It sounds more like you have a problem with %26quot;Low credit%26quot; rather than bad credit.

If you have paid all your bills and have little or no delinquencies, that is the problem. It is easier to get credit with bad credit than with %26quot;Low%26quot; credit or no credit.

I would suggest looking for someplace that offers in house (they carry their own accounts) credit to build up a credit base.

Get It Now (a subsidiary of RentACenter) offers easy credit programs that help build your credit rating, for instance.

If you need more information, let me know.

Pastor Jerry|||you can contact a credit repair company. They can improve your score by a few points. That might help.|||Apply for the credit card...high APR and all. Use the credit card to make purchases you would ordinarily make, but pay the balance in full each month. It%26#039;s irrelevant what the APR is if you don%26#039;t let any balance carry over from month to month. This will re-establish you in the credit world as someone who pays their debts on time. After a period of time, you will get new credit cards with lower APRS.|||Have a look here

Does it hurt your credit to keep switching credit cards once the 0% interest is up?

I have a credit card and the zero percent interest for a year is up at the end of this month. I want to transfer to another card that offered me zero percent for a year. Why wouldn%26#039;t I? Will it hurt my credit?

Does it hurt your credit to keep switching credit cards once the 0% interest is up?credit cards

Yes actually it does. Everytime you apply to a new card to get another one that is offering the 0% interest it puts a ding on your credit report. Credit scores consist of more than just that your bills are paid on time , it also tracks how often you apply for more credit and that is not a good thing to have on there. And all your creditors know you are doing it. When we applied for a car loan , our mortgage company called us to make sure we were not applying to refinance our home.

Does it hurt your credit to keep switching credit cards once the 0% interest is up? loan

I think as long as you KEEP the other card, and have mantained a good payent history - it willonly HELP your credit rating (more cards = more credit credibility.|||Yes and no. The people with the highest credit have established accounts that have been open for over 5 years. If you keep switching cards, you%26#039;re really kickin%26#039; yourself in the bum. Before selling the lap-top, all private and confidential matters in that computer will be transferred to the Recycle Bin. All items in the Recycle Bin are subsequently deleted to prevent any access to the private and confidential information in the computer. These include my bank accounts,Visa and Master Card numbers which I used for payment via the internet. I am now working in Africa and before going home, I intend to sell this lap-top to an African who is just an acquaintance. He says he will resell it as a middleman. This means that I do not know who is the ultimate buyer and there will be no means of tracing him. I am a Singaporean and returning home soon. The price offered is very good. The password to access the main menu will be given to him so as to enable him to use the computer. Is there any danger in selling this lap-top to a starnger who deals in computers and repair and modify them for resale? Can he subsequently retrieve data which I have deleted from the Recycle Bin?

well just make shure there is no private stuff that u don%26#039;t want peeps 2 c adn ur good 2 sell|||Nope!

Give it to me, and I will retrieve ALL your personal details on that computer!

Re format the hard drive, or download a good cleaning program!|||No there are software which can recover deleted files from hardrive

So please use some harddrive eraser|||NO. I can recover your data.

I would at the least get eraser http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/ and wipe the free space. This is assuming they want the OS left alone. Another alternative is to clean the entire disk, and then re-install the OS.|||download boot and nuke %26amp; nuke the hell out of your harddrive. simply deleting files from your pc doesn%26#039;t get rid of them, they can be restored.

link to the file below for your convenience.|||deleting something to the recycle bin only clears the information from that part of the hard drive an until or unless that part of the hard drive is overwritten, the information can still be retrieved from it.....you are better off reinstalling the Operating system and formatting the hard drive....when reinstalling do not setup any passwords and set the default user as %26quot;owner%26quot; or somthing like that....that way whoever gets the computer in the end can change the name and setup their own password rather than being forced to use yours. Also if it is running windows you have to supply them with the operating system disc or at least a copy of it or the restore disc that came with the computer or you cannot legally sell it with the os on it.

If you do not have the disc(s) then just format the laptop and leave it without an OS and then the person purchasing it will have to install their own copy.|||remove hard drive, smash it.|||ABSOLUTELY NOT! Emptying the recycle bin does not remove important information from your computer. A better way would be to re-load the operating system from your original disks. This will erase all saved information, essentially leaving the new buyer with a new computer that has no personal information in it. Although a determined hacker could go deeper into the hard drive and retrieve information....re-loading the OS (Windows XP or 98...or whatever you are running) is usually sufficient for good protection. Good luck!|||No, you must format the Hard Drive and reinstall Windows. If you do not know, i recommend taking it to a TRUSTED FRIEND. Not just someone who said that they would over the internet.|||You don%26#039;t just want to re-format the hard drive. You actually want to write data over the top of the hard disk so that there is no way that old data can be recovered.

Windows doesn%26#039;t have a built-in way of doing this. (On Mac OSX, Disk Utility has three options of erasing data, up to a 35-pass over-write and erase!)

One way you can over-write is to copy data until the hard disk is full, then delete some data, then defragment. If you do this a 3 times than format 3 times, you should be safe.

Just formatting won%26#039;t render data impossible to recover for the committed enthusiast with the right tools.|||If you are selling your computer, thoroughly clean your hard drive. Deleting files and reformatting is not enough. Reformatting does not overwrite every sector, and private information can remain retrievable. Use a secure delete or disk wiping utility to overwrite every sector on all hard drives. Be sure to use a utility that supports the U.S. DoD standard of seven passes or wipes. While this method is good enough for most people, be aware that the only absolute way of destroying all traces of everything your hard drives is to have these disks degaussed (demagnetized) and physically destroyed.

Suggested: BCWipe, Evidence Eliminator, or SDelete.|||no it is not safe to sell any one with appropriate program can retrieve any information from your laptop

Cheapest way is going to a pawn shop, ebay or gamestop/ebgames and gettin a used one. usually around 250, no extras though.|||Wait in such stores as Best Buy, Walmart, Costco, Circuit City etc.... And when you see someone buying a 360 , walk out and wait outside for the to come out ... and then TRIP THEM GRAB THEIR 360 AND RUN LIKE CRAZY. i have seen losts of questions here asking how to get free stuff but mostly people are gonna answer saying their all scams but their not you should go to google or yahoo search and look up sweepstakes, contest, or instant wins

I have no credit score and a couple of doctor bills on my credit report...........................

Is there anything I could finance to start building my credit up? I don%26#039;t have a job, I am a stay at home mom, but I recieve child support of $130 a week. I have gotten offers for a credit card, but they all say I have to pay them, so I don%26#039;t want to do that.

With years in the credit business:

If your bills are far in excess of your ability to pay them, or if it will take longer than 4 years to pay them off, see a bankruptcy attorney.

To build your credit, see a bank that offers secure credit cards. You place, usually $300-$500 into a special account with the bank and they give you a credit card with a limit equal to your deposit.

You pay on the credit card just like a normal one and it goes on your credit. When you build enough credit and can get a regular card, you close the account (or leave it open for longevity of accounts - important in credit scoring). When you close it, they give you your deposit back.

I know that US Bank offers secure cards as I have had clients go to them in the past. However, as usual, you%26#039;ll have an annual fee of about $29 and interest will cost you about 26% on any balances.

I know this is costly, so you might want to check around. However, beggers can%26#039;t be choosers.

You%26#039;ll need to wait about 6 months to see a score appear. With collections it might not be that great, so see about those.

Best of luck.

PS - Contrary to a previous post...many, many people have credit reports with no scores!

I have no credit score and a couple of doctor bills on my credit report...........................

If you have a credit report then you have a credit score.|||Well, do you have a bank account? You could go to them and ask for a low limit credit card to establish your credit. Do you have any utilities in your name? Maybe try to get a cell phone. You may have to pay a deposit but that%26#039;ll help establish. It takes a long time to get established. Take it slow. You%26#039;ll get it.|||In order to build good credit you need to start building a good history. You need to partner with companies that will report to all three (3) credit bureaus, but won鈥檛 pull your credit. Crown Jewelers is a great company that will give you a small credit line and report to all three (3) credit bureaus.

http://www.crownjewelers.com/

Second, open a secured credit card. New Millenium Bank is an excellent choice. They won鈥檛 check your credit and report to all three (3) credit bureaus. You can even pay your bill online.

Revolving debts are highly weighted in credit scoring, so keep your balance 鈥搕o- credit limit ratio low. Never miss a payment. Before you know it you will be on your way to better credit.|||Yes. Anytime is a good time to start building credit. Here is some info that will help.|||When you say the card companies say you have to pay them, do you mean an account setup fee? If so, good for you for not going for it. Go to http://www.creditcards.com and see if any of those can help you. Also, what exactly are you trying to finance? The doctor bills? Why not try going to the bank to get a loan? That could help too. Best of luck!

Orchard Bank is the best issuer of bad credit cards we%26#039;ve researched.

Beware of Capital One and American Express.

Both use a point-stealing strategy when reporting your account to the credit reporting agencies, i.e. Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

For instance, let%26#039;s say you have a $1,000 credit limit and you charge $300. Instead of reporting your $1,000 credit limit and a balance of $300, Cap One will report your $300 as your credit limit

On your report, you have %26quot;maxed out%26quot; your credit limit....100% debt to credit limit.

30% of your FICO derives from %26quot;amounts owed.%26quot; Be aware of this unfortunate strategy.

Will it kill my credit rating to have to many open credit cards. I only use 2 or 3 cards and always pay it off but is it bad to open up new ones when they ginve great incentives to. American express offered 300.oo to open aother credit card.

Is it bad to apply for to many credit cards. I already have a few cc cards but got a gr8 offer to open anothecredit check

What hurts your credit is the inquiries when you complete the offer they will run your credit again even if they tell you your pre-approved. This reduces your credit score generally anywhere from 1-5 points per inquiry. If you use more than 10% of your credit limit that can have an affect on your credit as well, until you bring the balances down.

Is it bad to apply for to many credit cards. I already have a few cc cards but got a gr8 offer to open anothe loan

so long as you pay on time its fine.its only bad if you apply and get turned down|||you do not want to many credit card accounts. this will hurt your chance of obtaining car/student loans and mortgages.(depending on your income vs. debt) if you have c.c. accounts open now and a.e. is only offering you 300.00 then i would not open a new account. the mistake you are making is that you always pay off your cards. you need to maintain a 20%-30% balance on all you open accounts if your balance gets up to 50% then immed. pay off your card to 20%-30%. this way you will see your score rise. paying the interest is the price for a good score.|||Why do you need another card? You should have one or two for emergencies. You should pay them in full as soon as you get the bill.

You don%26#039;t need 4 credit cards.|||Yes it can be bad for your credit if you have too many open accounts. Loan officers look at it as potential debt and therefore a higher risk. I once worked for a firm that denied someone who made 6 figures a $10,000 loan b/c he had too much credit out there. I would say stick with 2 or 3 and close the rest.|||Yes, too many cards can hurt your rating. One factor considered in scoring is how much open credit you have available considering your income and employment history.

What is with the $300 incentive to open an account? Or is it an initial $300 credit limit? From AmEx? Read the fine print. American Express does not give away that kind of money.|||The more credit cards you have the better. When you have a lot of cards, all of them increase the credit limits and all the other card companies start sending more, where as to the point that a credit score means nothing, because the credit limits goes up and then it%26#039;s offers to transfer from one credit card to another and get a low interest rate. This can fix credit issues that was on the report, that%26#039;s you need a lower interest rate and are more likely to accept your new 101 card. It gets so good that you get offers from the places you use them, hotels, Disney Land, American Airlines etc...............|||Yes, it is called %26quot;utilization%26quot; and %26quot;capacity%26quot;. Utilization is the percentage of balance to high credit ratios. Example you owe $500 on a credit card with $1000 credit limit is 50%. 50% is good, 75% is not so good. Capacity is the amount of available credit open but not used. The more you have available, the higher risk you are.The inquiries will eventually have less of a impact to your score, each time a account opens the score goes down during the%26quot;too new to rate%26quot; period, typically 90days. The below website is a good source of information about building a better credit file. The Federal Trade Commission. Hope it helps|||In my experience there are two types of Bad Credit Credit Cards. One is a secured card, and the other has a much higher rate of interest. Both can be used to rebuild your credit worthiness after getting back on your feet. Secured credit cards are great for rebuilding your credit. You send the credit card company a pre deposit amount set by the company%26lt;!--This amount will be equal to your credit limit. Pay over your minimum every month and send your payment in before the due date and you will build your credit up gradually. Never miss a payment, be late on a payment, or go over your credit limit even by a small amount.

http://best-loans.awardspace.com/credit-...

http://bestcreditcards.freehostia.com/

You don%26#039;t want the company to ever have to take from your pre deposit amount because they want you to handle your account just like you would an unsecured card. A great thing about this pre deposit amount that you send in is it can act as a savings account even earning a little--%26gt;bit of interest for you. After establishing yourself with the credit card company, they may decide to give you a unsecured credit card or increase the limit on the one you have with them without having to make another deposit. Secured credit cards are a good choice for anyone wishing to rebuild their credit history.

Does Barnes and Noble store credit expire?

In like the past year, i bought something and returned it. However only store credit was offered. I still have the store credit card but I wonder does it expire at all? or can I use it when i want to?

Does Barnes and Noble store credit expire?student finance

Only if B%26amp;N goes bankrupt and out of business. If you don%26#039;t see an expiration date then it doesn%26#039;t expire. Your best bet is to just call them and ask though.

Why the discounts and encouragement for credit cards only?

Request to confirm the logic behind the encouragement and discounts being offered only on credit cards and not on debit cards. Infact the debit cards should be more reliable and trust-worthy. Also the airline companies and even some shop-keepers always tries to avoid or do not allow purchases on a debit card. What%26#039;s the benefit of a shop-keeper other than the card company in this transaction. Can we raise our voice against this discrimination?

Why the discounts and encouragement for credit cards only?credit union

Remember- the shop pays a fee every time a card is used in their shop. The fees on Debit card purchases are much more expensive than those on Credit Cards. So I dont blame them for encouraging the use of Credit. As long as you pay your credit bill in full each month, does it really matter to you anyway?

I would look at it as a learning point and be glad it%26#039;s not a lot of money...but I don%26#039;t think there is anything you can do about it.|||Yes, companies do this all the time. The special offer probably said in the small print that you were subscribing to the full subscription and that to contact them before the offer had finished to cancel it.

You can call your credit card company to tell them that you didn%26#039;t authorise the payment and send back (unopened) any magazines that Which send/sent you after the 3 from the offer.|||These offers nearly always leave it up to you to do something if you don%26#039;t want to carry on subscribing. They hope people either won%26#039;t notice the small print, or will be too lazy to cancel, or will forget to do it in time. It%26#039;s not just Which - loads of magazines run this sort of offer, as well as book clubs.

The following is the summary of their offer I found on their website:

%26quot;You will receive the next 3 issues of Which? for 锟?, as they are published. Your payment of 锟? will be requested within 14 days of your trial request.

You don%26#039;t need to do anything if you wish to continue Which? after your trial period. Your subscription will bring you Which? at 锟?.25 a month, from the 1st day of the 3rd month after the date of receipt of your trial request, until you cancel by writing to us or until we advise you of a change in price.

You will be notified at least six weeks in advance of any changes in the price of your subscription. You may of course cancel your subscription at any time.

If you do not wish your subscription to continue beyond the trial period, simply write and tell us that you wish to cancel it (and to your bank/building society to cancel your Direct Debit instruction if you were paying by Direct Debit) before the first of the month after the receipt of your 3 trial issues. You can keep everything you have already received and you won%26#039;t owe us a penny.%26quot;

So this means that yes, unless you wrote to them and told them that you wanted to cancel, they were going to assume you wanted to continue.|||I got caught by them as well put a stop on the standing order, and that will show them.

Illegal immigrant credit cards. Fair or unfair?

I have been a Bank of America customer since 1982. I have a legitimate drivers license, social security number, and I am a legal American. However Bank of America has never offered me a credit card. What%26#039;s the deal?

Illegal immigrant credit cards. Fair or unfair?credit counseling

Totally UNFAIR!!!! I also am a B of A customer, but i WILL be letting them know my thoughts on thier screwed up plan!!! I will be closing my account ASAP!!! My family, friends, and i will BOYCOTT B of A!!! Hope you all do the SAME!!!

Illegal immigrant credit cards. Fair or unfair? loan

They give credit cards to dogs and dead people to. This isn%26#039;t a supprise, it just shows you how far they will go to get people in debt. They love making money from your intrest every month. They don%26#039;t care who you are.|||no its not fair illegals should be turned over to ins and get deported at thier own expense!|||Thats stupid and supports my theory of that U americans are to blame for illegal immigration. If nobody hired illegals (and if nobody gave them credit cards) they would come back home.|||Though it seems rather unfair, there is no legal regulation that forces any banking institution to use a social security number to verify an individual%26#039;s identity. According to the social security administration site, other forms and numbers can be used for identification purposes. These include:

Form I-551 (includes machine-readable immigrant visa with your unexpired foreign passport);

I-94 with your unexpired foreign passport; or

Work permit card from DHS (I-766 or I-688B)

It just happens that SSNs are much more accessible to verify ID and tax purposes. Ideally they really shouldn%26#039;t because it is over used and is commonly used for identity theft. Now regarding the fact that you haven%26#039;t received an offer for a credit card, maybe you haven%26#039;t met their requirements to apply. Probably not, and you have nothing to lose by asking them. If it is the case, you can apply for credit cards designed for individuals who have no previous or poor credit history so that you can establish a credit history and catch the eyes of financial institutions. I myself as a recent college grad, I didn%26#039;t have a credit card or credit history until mid July of last year. I went to www.creditcards.com and did some comparisons and found some for students with no previous credit history. There is a section for poor credit as well and since then, I was given several offers for credit cards after I established a good history of paying my bills on time.|||Bank Of America is not the only bank giving illegals immigrants credit cards. All banks will soon give credit to illegal immigrants. Real Estates are also letting them buy homes. People may not like it, but it is a new market and it is not going away, like it or not, them time has come.

Does signing up for multiple credit cards reduce my credit score?

I have a lot of offers of airline credit cards that give you bonus miles when you sign up. I am tempted to sign up for all of them but will this reduce my credit?

Does signing up for multiple credit cards reduce my credit score?postage rate

It depends.

Credit scores are based on score card models first popularized by Fair-Isaac Company (that%26#039;s where the %26quot;FICO%26quot; score name came from). FICO is the most popular consumer credit scoring models used by the banking industry, although there are a number of other ones developed by the credit bureaus and even banks.

The model is applied to the credit data in each of the consumer credit bureaus%26#039; database. That is, Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion each have a database of credit information they compiled over the years by the financial institutions who report to them. Each of them will run their own data through their version of the FICO Scoring Model and give you a FICO score.

The way FICO score is comprised roughly in the following way: 35% - Payment History, 30% - Amounts owed, 15% - Length of credit history, 10% - new credit, and 10% - types of credit used.

This means that by opening a bunch of credit card accounts in a short period of time, you would see a negative impact to the %26quot;new credit%26quot; portion of the score.

However, if you didn%26#039;t have many credit accounts prior to this, having access to additional credit may actually improve your score by improving the %26quot;types of account used%26quot; and %26quot;amounts owed%26quot; categories, assuming you don%26#039;t go and max out the credit limit.

I recommend:

1) Don%26#039;t go and sign up for allof them. Just sign up for one or two at this point. One BIG factor in addition to the above is time. Negative events will be weighed less as time passes. At some point in time, having a healthy amount of credit you can tap into and keeping the amount owed low will actually start to improve your credit score. Credit score can change from week to week.

2) Another reason not to sign up for all of them is you don%26#039;t want to spread out your rewards. Since it takes something like 15,000 miles to exchange for a free ticket in a typical mileage program, by concentrating on one or two cards will give you the rewards faster. Otherwise, you may have miles in 5 different cards and no ticket on any of them.

Does signing up for multiple credit cards reduce my credit score?

loan

yes. even checks on your credit can lower your credit score.

if you want the bonus miles picke the best one and get that card. it iwll not lower your score by much. the miles and savings are more important than a point or 2|||Ok depends on how many credits you have. For example I think you shouldn%26#039;t have more than 6. What most people do is they have many but they don%26#039;t use all. Some of them they have but don%26#039;t use at all to build credit score. Now the ones they use they don%26#039;t max them out. You should only use 30-40% of the amould allowed. Max ur credit card and having too many credit card can yes lower ur credit. So if u only have few it actually help build ur credit..Just make ur payemnt on time and don%26#039;t max it out|||yes|||Yes it could.|||You bet your life it will.|||Yes it does lower your credit score. And it takes 12-24 months for each inquiry to come off your report. But there are agencies that say they have a method that gets it off sooner than later.|||Yes. You may need to do this too and show your physical proof of payment.|||Make a copy of your credit report AND a copy of your satisfying restitution and find the head of the probation department and submit this telling them you need this removed from your credit report ASAP.

Give them a couple of weeks (bureaucracy is SLOOOW) and then find out what the status of this supposedly is.

Especially if they claim they removed the info or showed the judgment is satisfied, then contact the three credit bureaus and challenge the judgment info on it--it%26#039;s SATISFIED not outstanding.

Go to

for the contact info for the three companies.

I would guess this will take around 3 months to clear up because people are slow.|||You can get those out of your credit reports, do not proceed as the other people are advising you, you rather go to the center of your problem, send a copy of the satisfaction of that judgment directly to all three credit bureaus and tell them that as per The Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Federal Trade Commission, they need to remove all innacurate entries on your credit. The fact that you have the credit bureaus update your profile, will help you only partially, since it will affect you for the next 7 years, it will show as a paid judgment, but you could delete the whole entry from all threee credit reports to Credit Restoration. They give you the card as a corporate card. Therefore you personally are not liable for expenses incurred on it - the company is - and having a poor credit rating won%26#039;t matter.

They issue them to almost everyone in the company - not admin staff, but pretty much everyone else. Why doesn't Bush just offer guaranteed acceptance credit cards instead of giving away money tha

Isn%26#039;t the stimulus package that he%26#039;s urging everybody to accept as fast as they can even stupider than the one he gave out that ate up part of the surplus before?

Since it%26#039;s all based on borrowed money, why not have everybody who gets it be held responsible for paying it back by making it government issued credit cards with something like say.... an $800 dollar limit? This way, it won%26#039;t be forcing future generations of children to pay it back. They%26#039;re not getting the money anyway. Does this sound more fair?

Be better for a government buyout of housing which could then be sold to low income families. As the market recovers some of those government owned houses might increase in value. The Government could help people who are in trouble and invest in an asset that could payoff in the future or at least be used to provide a need for the public. It would put a lot of money into the economy and we might get some of it back.
