Check stolend from my mail and cashed?

Someone either took a check out of my mailbox or had it mistakenly delivered to them (i live in a big apt complex with community mailroom with locked boxes)

This person apparently scribbled my singnature then signed it herself and cashed it in RI (Im in MA) The person that issued me the check has given me another one and I have the cancelled check my %26quot;neighbor%26quot; cashed..My concern is what else has she taken from my mail? I get credit card offers etc,,Where do I start to press charges? Mail fraud or local PD?

Been there, done that. I live in a rural area, and have a rural box, which is quite aways from my home. This has happened twice in the past year, and I finally shelled out $200 to get a locking mailbox.

You should keep watch on your credit report, as possibly there were other cc offers, etc. stolen. Really, that is the only thing you can do. You are not liable in the event that happens, but it%26#039;s a real pain to sort out..good luck. You might want to consider a PO Box or locking Box.

Report it to the local police, both where you live and in the town of the bank where the check was cashed. They will see that the case is brought to the attention of the correct prosecuting authorities. She could be prosecuted both in MA and RI. In some states, this offense is a 10+ year felony. She could lose the freedom to have checking accounts and she may never get a respectable job again. It could bring down a world of hurt on her.

Do it soon, before the bank photos of your neighbor get deleted.|||you can go to your identity theft division or contact the post master.. The post office has there own version of the police..
